‘An Evening with Enfield Brass’ wrap-up

Enfield Brass held their second Sunday evening concert on the 18th August. A big thank you to all who attended despite the wet and cold weather – the band performed to around 50 fans, including our very own Arthur – an EEb tuba player who has recently been in hospital. We were all thrilled to see him, and we’re sure he loved every minute of the concert!

The evening commenced with a quick introduction from our President, Justin, before our MD for the evening, Shayne, started us off with Fanfare and Flourishes, by James Curnow –  a wonderful introductory piece showcasing our cornet section. We continued on with Beyond the Sea (from Finding Nemo).

Shayne then explained the key purpose of this concert – a final run through of our competition pieces for SA State Band Championships, before the band performed the competition repertoire in its entirety. The test piece, Dean Goffin’s Rhapsody for Brass was well received, and our soloists – Kate, Jason and Min, played brilliantly.

Moving onto some more entertainment pieces, the audience was once again introduced to Justin as he played the solo on Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, before the band moved onto something completely different, J. P. Sousa’s The Liberty Bell – well known as the theme to Monty Python’s Flying Circus.

The evening finished off with some thank yous, before the band played one of their Oompah staples, the highly energetic Can Can by Jacques Offenbach. Unfortunately no high kicking this time – just a well executed tenor horn spin from Min!

The band is now gearing up for States at Marryatville High School over the weekend of 24th & 25th August – which will comprise the competition section and a Parade of Bands. We also have three soloists performing on the Saturday, being Chloe, Ashleigh and Rohan.

Good luck to the band, our soloists, and all other competitors over the weekend.
